DON'T GRIEVE TOO LONG
Don't grieve too long for now I'm free
I've followed the path God set for me
I ran to Him when I heard His call
I swished my tail and left it all.
I could not stay another day
To bark, to love, to romp or play
Games left un-played must stay that way
I found such peace, it made my day.
My parting has left you with a void
Please fill it with remembered joy
A friendship shared, your laugh, a kiss
Oh yes, these things I too shall miss.
Be not burdened with times of sorrow
I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow
My life's been full, you've given so much
Your time, your love and gentle touch.
Perhaps my time seemed all too brief
Don't lengthen it now with undue grief
Lift up your head and share with me
God wanted me, He set me free!

Our love affair with Great Danes all started about 24 years ago with Duchess, a Great Dane mix that we adopted from the local humane society. Duchess was spayed.

Duchess was our first experience with Danes liking water!

Next came Babe and Channel, our first purebred Danes. They were both spayed. We purchased Babe, a nicely marked Harlequin from a local breeder. About 2 months later, the breeder gave us her sister, Channel. Channel was removed from the home of the original buyer because she was "vicious". We took her on as a foster and once we found out that she was just a normal, sweet Dane puppy, we gave her a forever home with us.

Channel

Caesar came along near the end of Babe's lifespan (13 years). He was  purebred, but was purchased without any registration papers and neutered.

Then, Roseland Zeus became our first stud. Zeus and High Dee had one litter of pups before we lost Zeus. Those pups encouraged us to breed High Dee again, 2 1/2 years later, for the outstanding 2001 litter, which was the official launch of our breeding Great Danes.

 Roseland Zeus

Our first litter was out of Roseland Zues and Roseland High Dee. We kept the two "boys", Tyten and Baron, and sold the nicely marked female Harlequin to a pet home.

Roseland TyTen

This was a beautiful puppy from High Dee's first litter who suffered an unfortunate accident which resulted in both legs being broken at the ankles.  This picture shows him wearing specially made splints which were used to help stabilize his feet. After struggling for 3 1/2 years, trying to make him comfortable and give him a good quality of life, his legs gave out and we had to put him down. Throughout his short life, we could not have asked for a nicer, gentler, and more loving Dane than we had in "TiTi".

Roseland Baron Von Plank

Baron was our big loveable, dopey, 186 lb. neutered male, Great Dane. We affectionately called him "Big Bear". He was very wide in the beam and loved any and all food he could get his mouth on. He was also the best babysitter for any new puppy we raised. As soon as a puppy was big enough to not be injured by this giant, the pup was put in the pen with him. Baron did a wonderful job of keeping the pup exercised and taught all those good doggy manners. Baron was a puppy from High Dee's first litter and died suddenly on October 29, 2003.

"OLIVE"

Olive was a female harlequin from our 2004CC litter. At 10 days of age, she showed signs of delayed growth and abnormal movement. Sadly, she was laid to rest at age 3 weeks, 3 days. She was a brave little soul who fought to live, but was unable to overcome neurological problems that occurred during birth.

Kasinodane Bolero-Roseland

"RB"

We lost our beautiful Harlequin stud to cancer in February 2006. He produced 17 puppies (2002, 2003CC, & 2003 HD) prior to his death and died just before his last litter (2006K) was whelped.  He was the best behaved Dane and we thank his breeder, Anne Williamson of Kasino Danes for allowing us to purchase him.

LITTLEHORSE REBEL YELL

Rebel sired 3 litters of puppies (2004CC, 2004M & 2005M) and earned an International

Championship in 2005.  He was retired from our breeding program in 2005 due to a heart condition and succumbed to bloat in October 2006..

Roseland High Dee

High Dee was our first breeding Harlequin Great Dane. She had been raised since a puppy and whelped 4 litters. She was then retired and spayed.  With retirement she helped raised the puppies we were keeping, teaching them their doggie manners.  In the fall of 2005, she was diagnosed with wobblers at the age of 9.  With the help of medication, she did well with the condition, but by the fall of 2007, it was becoming too difficult for her and the hard decision was made to send her across the Rainbow bridge.  As these last 3 pictures show, she still had a great attitude and it was hard to tell that she was 11 years, 3 months old at the time of her death.  She will be very missed.

KASINODANE TRIPLE MARTINI

After spending over 4 years with us in our breeding program, Martini was retired, spayed and moved to a new home in New York City where she will live out the remainder of her life in a fun and loving home.  Martini's litters were 2004M, 2005M, 2006M and 2007M.
